i realize that threads like this have been done before, but i don't think that it hurts to do one again.. i personally appreciate this website so much.
it has been an absolute treasure-trove of information, research material, emotional support, and simple enjoyment.
and, it's free of charge!
THANK - U !!!
ok, if i came to your country (usa, canada, france, holland, oz....wherever) what should someone experience or sample before they leave....to give them a true taste of your homeland.
limit it to 5 per post....if you can.. i'll start with england/britain.. english ale, the lake district (england), to get a true taste of england visit the city of bath (or maybe stratford, though a bit too touristy), sample some black pudding (blood sausage .
c'mon you patriots!!!!.
Well, if you came to Southern California, try the Mexican food....specifically someone who makes great steak Fajitas (Fah-hee-tahs). Grilled, seasoned steak strips, onions and peppers (red and green)....served with warm, home-made flour tortillas. (tore-tee-yahs)
after i left the organization, one of the things that surprised me the most, was the clergy of christendom and their view of jehovah's witnesses.
i thought as a jw, we were the 'center' of their attention, and they not only hated us, but were afraid of all the things we published about them.. nothing could have been farther from the truth!
most ministers hardly knew anything about witnesses.
Gary...
that "vehicle" reminds me of Oscar Myers WEINERMOBILE.....
this will probably apply to few here, but to me it'll always be that way.
it's the what if syndrome maybe, but it's always there.
i still think that as a core belief system the jw's have it right, even if their delivery isn't always right.
did anyone happen to notice the "number" of Bizzybees' last post.....666
i was raised a jw, third generation.
grampa was a congregation servant and then elder, my dad was an elder for years.
i made it up the ranks fast, you were not anybody if you did not become an elder, i was appointed at an early age.
They said in the Talk that even a brother was telling the truth if it put the Society in a bad light then not to listen but run from the person and not become like the destroyer of faith
....hmmm .... stupid reasoning... the brother's not putting the Society in a bad light...that TRUTH is a fact... the "light" is made up from that fact.... it's the fact (truth) that reveals what light the Society is put in...good or bad. Therefore, the destroyer of faith is the fact itself, or in other words the TRUTH.
btw, WELCOME.... cool name... did you use to watch Skyking on Saturday mornings as a kid?
.
after years of lurking - i'm on.. am i doing right i don't know.. confused ?
- yes i am..
Hi !! .... back at'cha. WELCOME !!! Glad you chimned in.
Am I on a journey ?
You bet... make sure you put on your seatbelt!
There appears to be a lot of bitterness on here and I don't want that.
....hmmmm.... that's only because JWD sometimes doubles as a venting "couch"....it's cathartic for some....if it bothers you, be selective in what you read (kind of like changing the channel on cable tv)
I love God and I love Jesus Christ .
Me too....so do many others at JWD.....cool, isn't it.
I may not post again for a while so please bear with me.
It's ok...really.... jump back in when you want...take care!

Well, take this with a grain of salt (I've never been a JW), but you could go the Logic route:
Take a sheet of paper and make 3 lists - the first list, put down all of the attributes why you believe they are right - put down the three major points and then list the additional ones. the second list, put down all the points where they fall short (leave yourself plenty of room, it will be huge). Thirdly, list all of the misc. (if any) "I don't know if it's positive or negative"...
The second list will speak for itself. The third list doesn't matter since there is probably no real answer. But combined, they are important when weighing an outcome, so put them aside.
Now that brings you back to the first list - all of the attributes why you believe they are right. Can every point be exclusively made by the JWs? What other group makes similar claims? The only way you can answer that is if you absolutely know not only what other groups believe, but how they carry out those beliefs. If you consider yourself a Christian, how important is it to follow exclusively the example of Christ's life - love, forgiveness, service to fellowman, no matter who they are, etc.? If following Christ's example is important in being a Christian, how do the JWs measure up? Do any other Christians do a better job of trying to follow in His footsteps, rather than in religious traditions?
From list #1 you're going to have to take each point and figure out how they compare to others that are trying to follow Christ - I can tell you, having attended many different Christian churches, the JWs are left wanting....BIG time. Every church has a list #2.... however, there are not too many Christian churches that leave such a wake of misery in the lives of those they claim as members or past members. Just the break up of families alone is something that just can't be explained away. Personally, for me, that alone PROVES that there is no Heavenly "stamp of approval" on the JW, but that's just me.
There is no overwhelming point that can be claimed from list one that can't be claimed by other followers of Christ to "prove" that they are "true". That fact, along with counter-weighing lists 2 and 3 should give you your answer.
Hey....I know, it's dry statistical reasoning. But, at the end of the day, does your heart of heart tell you that Christ would acknowledge all of the shananeggins that have taken place with the JWs since their inception in the late 1800s, or would he be more apt to acknowledge individual attempts from those who follow the Golden Rule in living a life of love, service and doing the best one can in following the example of Christ?
ok, let's create a person with the iq of a genius - who belongs to mensa, double majored on a full scholarship to rutgers university,.
plays concert piano, and is really good in math.. now, add the fact that is she is alarming attractive....( ok, there was some surgery involved).
add the fact that she can actually climax ( no faking) with ease.
Life is Unfair
But only for those humans that live and breathe.....no one is immune.
